Sad to say, but because of lack of interest I am discontinuing Movie Nosh. It has been fun to express my opinion about the movies and I may continue to do so on my other blog passions and soapboxes. But for now I will no longer be writing here. Thank you to the few who supported Movie Nosh and what I was trying to do.
Goodbye….

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince (2009)
July 15, 2009 · 1 Comment
Half Blood Prince is the 6th instalment of the Harry Potter movies and it is the best yet. It stars the usual cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. This movie although Rated PG for scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality, it is not for small children. It is a very dark and scary movie so I would recommend ages 10 and above no matter how tempted you are to share this with your little ones. Seeing it is much different than reading about it. The sensuality part of the rating is for snogging (kissing, making out) but nothing too in your face, very tame. David Yates directed this installment and will direct the last two Potter films as well. There are a few surprises added to this film as well as story arc’s that have been left out because of time contraints but overall it is a good interpretation of the book. mom scale ☆☆☆☆

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)
June 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment
This is the second Transformers movie and it stands up to the first one. Sequels are not known for being good but this one is. It is action packed and moves at the pace of a rollercoaster ride. Directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action violence, language, some crude and sexual material, and brief drug material. This is a very intense film that didn’t need the crude humor of dogs humping or robots humping a leg or a pair of gigantic robot testicles. This is a long film at 150 minutes and that combined with the violence and intense action sequences makes Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen not suitable for the smaller kids. I would let my kids 10 and older see this but not the 9 and under set. This is a good time and it was a fun film. mom scale ☆☆☆☆

Drag Me To Hell (2009)
May 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I really liked the film, but it is rated R for a reason…….Language and most likely going to give kids under 14 nightmares. Very entreating, sure to make you jump out of your seat a couple times and also sure to make you laugh, (especially if you are an evil dead fan) I really only have one problem with it…..Christopher Young……really come on! I was very unhappy with his score and mainly because he tried to do an Elfmanisque movie score; and failed. See I kind of find it ironic because in Spiderman 2 it kinda went like this….
(Spiderman 2)
Sam Rami (director):“Danny, can you make it sound like Hell Raiser? You know Christopher Young like?”
Danny Elfman (film composer) :“Oh……um….no…Hell no go hire Chris if you want Hell Raiser”
Sam Rami (director): “okay”
But in Drag Me To Hell I’m sure the conversation went something like this.
(Drag Me to Hell)
Sam Rami (director): “Hey, Chris, can you make it sound like Danny Elfman?”
Chris Young (film composer): “okay”
It didn’t.

Terminator Salvation (2009)
May 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment
This is the fourth film in the Terminator Saga and is directed by McG of Charlie’s Angels fame. The movie is set after judgement day but before John Conner is the leader of the resistance. Skynet is still trying to terminate John Conner played by Christian Bale. This is a good movie but not a great one. The continuity between the other 3 films and Terminator Salvation is handled very well despite the plot holes in the screenplay. The acting is a little wooden but can be overlooked by the action which there is plenty of and a penetrating music score written by Danny Elfman. There is also 1 or 2 surprises that you will have to see for yourself. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and language.
There is a lot of violence as in the other terminator films along with some brief male (terminator) nudity which is dimly lit and you only think you see something but not really. Because of the violence I would give a personnel recommendation of 11 years and up. If your child is easily frightened by the image of the terminator or affected by dark violent scenes of children in danger then follow the rating guidlines for PG13. This movie could possibly cause nightmares in younger children. mom scale ☆☆☆½

Star Trek (2009)

Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine as Spock and Kirk
This is a trip back to the beginning. When they met, how they met, so on and so forth. I still do not like what J J Abrams said about the fans and Gene Roddenberry but this is a good movie and it has a lot to offer old fans and new fans alike. There is a time twist that leaves new stories available for sequels, it’s clever, true and fun. They did mess with things a bit to achieve this, I will not say what because I do not wish to spoil it for you. The casting was spot on and Chris Pine and Karl Urban were perfect for Kirk and Bones. The script was well written with the proper Star Trek vernacular. I think Roddenberry would have liked this film. Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action and violence, and brief sexual content. The sexual content is Kirk under the sheets with a girl, no nudity. The scene is so tame you could show it on TV. I think 10 and up is a better call than 13 but there is violence and bodies flying into space so unless your child has already seen Star Trek movies and loves them I would follow the rating. mom scale ☆☆☆☆

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
May 2, 2009 · 1 Comment

This is the 4th x-men movie, sort of. Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine and there are familiar characters but still not x-men yet. I liked this film. The story was interesting and meshed well with what we already know about Logan from the comic books. This is a pre-quel. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, and some partial nudity (Jackman’s butt and very distant, can’t see a thing while jumping off a cliff frontal). My five year old grandson saw this and liked it but I think it would be too intense for most kids under 8 especially if your little one is sensitive to such things. The biggest problem with this film is the CGI. There is something off about the effects. It doesn’t quite live up to what we have come to expect from an x-men movie.
Plot: Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabertooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.
Here is a clip with interviews and trailers.
